Meher Baba and His Mandali

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE MANDALI

ON the afternoon of November 13, 1968, Meher Baba clarifying the meaning and status of the

Mandali (close ones) at Meherazad declared that only those few male and female lovers who 

were with Him all those years (through thick and thin) were His 'mandali'; all others were outside 

Meherazad were His lovers. He ranked His mandali second only to Mehera J. Irani, His chief 

woman disciple, then there were lovers and then the world. 

Baba made it clear that all these years He had held on to the mandali and the mandali 

had served Him and was serving Him devotedly, and that the mandali would not let Him down 

like the followers of Christ. Baba said that He is the greatest of Avatars because His manifestation 

will be while He is in His body. "During the next few months there will be occasions for the 

mandali to forsake me, but I will not allow it to happen."He wanted the mandali to hold on to H

is daaman (hem of His garment).

In the end, Baba said that at the time of His Manifestation His mandali will be with Him except for two or three.
